The 60-year-old man was thrashed to death in the jungle about a kilometer away from his home at Dhapa-9, 20 km away from the district headquarters Khalanga.
His eldest son Dharmaraj has blamed local Maoist cadres and other locals for the killing that took place just an hour after kidnapping. A police investigation is under way.
