Congress condoles Doti and Khotnag bus victims

KATHMANDU, April 13: The main opposition party – Nepali Congress – on Wednesday expressed its grief over the Khotang and Doti road mishaps.
Occurring on the eve of the Nepali New Year 2073 BS, the tragedies somewhat dampened the New Year enthusiasm.

Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba issued a statement expressing his grief over both the tragedies. "My tribute to the deceased at this sensitive hour and humble condolences to the bereaved family members," the statement reads.

A passenger bus en route to Kathmandu from Diktel of Khotang suddenly veered off road and plunged around 150 meters downhill, killing at least 24 and injuring scores. On the same night at Jijodamandou VDC of Doti, a jeep accident left six dead and some injured.


The party has demanded appropriate treatment to the injured and wished for their speedy recovery. The last year had seen more than 2,000 people killed in road mishaps apart from 9,000 deaths by massive earthquake which also left more than 22,000 people injured.


Congress has appealed to the government and all the concerned authorities to step up awareness campaigns, upgrade roads and formulate provions prohibiting vehicles from loading passengers beyond their capacity. RSS
