The conference, jointly organized by Oslo-based International Peace Research Institute of Oslo, Norway, and Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA), New Delhi, intends to examine the interface between state security, human security and climate change in South Asia.[break]
Inaugurating the conference, Indian Ambassador Rakesh Sood highlighted that climate change, as a trans-boundary issue, could unite people and encourage cooperation and collaboration.
According to a statement from the Indian Embassy, the Indian envoy dwelt upon cooperation between India and Nepal on environmental issues.
“Development of our shared water resources in a mutually beneficial manner offers one of the most demonstrable and effective means of addressing the shared problems of climate change between India and Nepal,” the Indian envoy said.
Delivering his key-note address, former foreign and finance minister of Nepal, Dr Ram Sharan Mahat said that the developing countries face the challenge of continuing economic development in a sustainable way without damaging the environment.
Scholars and experts from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Maldives and Norway are attending the program.
