His family and human rights activist have blamed the government indifference for the lack of progress in the search for him. Chaulagain has been missing since November 5, 2010 and his whereabouts remain has yet to be known despite formation of three probe committees.[break]
“It is sad that the state has not shown any interest to search a government staffer who has gone missing while at work,” Govinda Chaulagain, who has reached Dhangadi in search of his elder brother, said. “Police have been misleading all of us making false promise of his safe rescue,” Govinda said and urged media persons and human rights activists to help the search of his brother.
“Then Assistant Inspector General of Police Bimala Thapa relied on an astrologer and carried out no investigation whatsoever for four months,” he claimed. “We doubt the intention of the police in trying to change the course of case relying on an astrologer and feel even the police should be brought within the purview of investigations,” he demanded.
Regional chief of Informal Sector Service Center (Insec) Khadak Raj Joshi also said police have remained grossly negligent regarding the case. “How can the public have faith on a department that depends on an astrologer for investigations for four months,” Joshi asked and urged the government to make Chaulagain´s status public soon.
