KATHMANDU, Dec 1: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has wished for the speedy and full recovery of ailing Prime Minister K P Oli, in a letter to his Nepali counterpart on Saturday.

In his letter, Modi has offered ‘all possible help and assistance’ for Oli’s treatment, according to Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali.

“As a close friend of Nepal, PM Modi has offered on behalf of the government and people of India all possible help and assistance for further medical attention and advice,” reads the letter sent by  Prime Minister Modi.

Oli has been recovering at  Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital after emergency surgery for appendicitis on Tuesday. With the deterioration of his kidney, which he received in a transplant 12 years ago at Apollo Hospital in India, he has been undergoing dialysis to keep the kidney functioning .

Modi’s offer of medical help comes at a time when Oli has been planning a kidney re-transplant at a hospital abroad at the earliest after recovering from his recent surgery.

“PM Modi has acknowledged that PM Oli’s leadership and their remarkable partnership has been of immense benefit to the people of both countries,”  the letter further reads. “PM Modi conveyed that he looks forward to continue working with PM Oli to take India-Nepal relationship to newer heights.”

According to the prime minister’s press advisor, Surya Thapa, Oli’s health has been improving and he took  solid food on Saturday. “His mobility in the bed has been increased and his health is recovering fast,” Thapa said.

The prime minister’s secretariat has, meanwhile, appealed to well wishers to post get well soon messages to Oli’s personal website instead of crowding the hospital. The hospital has allowed  only close family members, top political leaders and key members of Oli’s secretariat team to visit him at the ICU.
