BUTWAL, May 3: A complaint has been lodged against Basudev Ghimire, the mayor of Tilottama Municipality in Rupandehi district, for violating the election code of conduct.
The complaint has been lodged against him for campaigning as the coordinator of the election mobilization committee which is not only against the election code of conduct but also challenges the election commission (EC) itself to take action.
A local resident, Pradip Thapa of Tilottama Municipality-11, lodged the complaint against Ghimire on Monday, demanding immediate action against Ghimire after he had repeatedly campaigned for the party's publicity against the election code of conduct. Ghimire also challenged the EC to take action against him in a press conference with the candidates on Sunday.
In the complaint registered as per the Chapter 3, Section 6(J) of the Election Act and Election Code of Conduct 2078, no public office holder or employee is allowed to campaign for any political party or candidate in elections.
While the local residents have been complaining about the mayor’s unjustifiable act, Ghimire, who is still the mayor, has been holding press conferences, asserting that he can do whatever he likes and no one can stop him from doing so, according to the complainer Thapa.
