RAUTAHAT, Sept 17: Commercial power generation from solar energy has started in Rautahat district for the first time. The solar power project brought into operation by Api Power Limited has already started production and is connected to the substation of Nepal Electricity Authority at Chandrapur through a 33 kV transmission line. The capacity of the project is said to be four megawatts.

The project design, import of equipment, construction, connection and operation work has been carried out by Kushal Projects Nepal Company. Sandeep Agrawal, Managing Director of Kushal Projects Nepal, said that the project of Api Power Company Limited will generate up to 500,000 units of electricity monthly. The project has already started generating four megawatts of electricity from solar power by connecting 11,112 solar panels of 400 watts in 12 bigha land in Chandrapur-5 of the district.

There is less possibility of generating electricity by constructing hydropower projects whereas the possibility of generating electricity from solar energy is high in Province 2. Locals say that the problem of power outage will be addressed after the start of power generation from solar energy.
