Coalition must emerge victorious to protect achievements: PM Deuba

JANAKPURDHAM, Oct 23: Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has appealed to the voters to make the current five-party coalition victorious to protect the achievements.


Addressing a gathering of cadres of the five-party alliance at Janakpurdham in Dhanusha on Saturday, PM Deuba further explained that victory for the five-party coalition must be secured to protect democracy and ensure full implementation of the constitution. 


At the program organized by the coalition of five parties, PM Deuba said the ruling parties formed the electoral alliance for the protection of achievements obtained with people's struggle and sacrifices and to institutionalize democracy and republican system.


He urged the cadres and leaders of ruling five parties not to hesitate to cast their vote in the election symbol of coalition partners in the upcoming elections. The House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly elections are scheduled for November 20 this year. 


On a different note, the PM, hitting out at the opposition party CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli, remarked, "If CPN-UML's Oli can enter electoral alliance, why can't we consider the same?"

PM Deuba reiterated that it was important to mobilize all ruling parties' cadres and leaders to run door-to-door election campaigns to make the ruling alliance winner in the upcoming election thereby institutionalizing protecting the country and institutionalizing democracy, federal republican system.


"We must save the nation as well as the current coalition," he said, adding that forming an electoral alliance was the need of the hour to protect the constitution as well as inclusiveness, federalism and democracy.


He assured that there would be plenty of opportunities when there will be a ruling coalition's government and the demands of those who were not getting opportunities at present would be addressed once the current coalition forms the government yet again. 


The Head of the Government expressed his confidence that the coalition government would be formed following the upcoming elections. 


He opined that the candidates of the five-party coalition must win for development and transformation in the country.


Also, addressing the assembly, CPN (Maoist Center) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal said that although the upcoming parliamentary election was a general process, it was going to be held for a special objective. 


Dahal added that there was no alternative for the current coalition to win the upcoming election. 


Stating that the coalition was formed out of special circumstances and amid a movement, he reaffirmed his commitment to protect the constitution. Dahal, also former Prime Minister, claimed that the epoch-making changes were heralded through the Comprehensive Peace Accord. 


He asserted that the current coalition was formed against those tendencies trying to challenge the political changes.


Likewise, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal said the five-party alliance was formed against the ill-intended trends and characters, while terming the alliance of CPN-UML and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) as an unholy alliance. 


The ruling alliance should be made victorious to safeguard the country from crisis and protect the constitution.


Also speaking at the event, NC senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel argued that the coalition partners should win for making Nepali citizens more powerful and ensure a robust economy adding that the alliance was formed to strengthen the democratic practice. 


Similarly, senior leader of Loktantrik Samajwadi Party Sharad Singh Bhandari stated that the alliance was made with an aim to strengthen Madhesi, Dalits, Muslims, minorities, indigenous and backward society.
