As soon as Limbu's body arrived at Roadshesh Chowk, there was a clash between the activists of Province 1 Re-naming Joint Struggle Committee and the police personnel, who were deployed to provide security.

The police had designated a restricted area from Roadsesh Chowk to the areas lying to the south. The clash with the police took place when the activists of the Struggle Committee tried to break the prohibited area by pelting stones at the police personnel on duty.

When the protestors broke the prohibited area and started pelting stones, the police resorted to baton charge and lobbed tear gas shells. Laimbu was injured in a protest in Biratnagar on March 19, demanding that the name of Koshi province should be renamed on the basis of ethnic identity.

Limbu died on March 24 at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan while undergoing treatment. After the government announced the martyrs, a memorial meeting was held at Rodshesh Chowk in Biratnagar after the circumambulation of the provincial assembly in Biratnagar.
