KATHMANDU, Dec 25: Chairman of Janamat Party, CK Raut, has reached the residence of CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli at Balkot for discussion with leaders of the various political parties in a bid to form a new coalition government.
Currently, leaders of CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Center, Rastriya Swatantra Party, Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), Rastra Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Janamat Party are engaged in discussions at Balkot.
The deadline for the formation of a new government is 5 pm this afternoon. A party needs to garner the support of a total of 138 members in the HoR to form the next government.
The CPN-UML has won 78 seats in parliament while the CPN-Maoist Center has secured 32, Rastriya Swatantra Party 20 seats, Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) 12 seats, Rastra Prajatantra Party (RPP) 14 seats and Janamat Party 6 seats.

Altogether, these six parties have 162 seats in the 275-member parliament.
On the other hand, the pre-poll alliance of NC with the Maoist Center, CPN Unified Socialist, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) and People’s Front Nepal (PFN) has only 136 seats in parliament.
Even if the NC is able to keep the alliance intact, it will have the support of only 136 lawmakers — short of two members to secure majority seats in parliament.
