KATHMANDU, Sept 13: Chief Justice Min Bahadur Rayamajhee on Sunday defended the apex court´s ruling that asked Parmananda Jha to take fresh oath in Nepali if he wanted to retain his post of vice president. [break]
"The decision was as per the existing law and the constitution," he said, while answering a question during a press conference organized by the court on Sunday.
A division bench of Rayamajhee and Justice Bala Ram KC had nullified Jha´s oath in, leading to Jha to remain out of the office of the vice president.
Jha had publicly accused Rayamajhee of being biased while passing the verdict. "We had shared benches when he was in the Supreme Court. There is no question why should I be biased against him."
"He [Jha] passed comments on the judgment after it went against him. It has been the general trend in the country to pass comments [against judges and judiciary] once one loses the case," Rayamajhee said.
Judiciary goes high-tech
In the meantime, the judiciary has gone high-tech from Sunday, announced Registrar of the Supreme Court Dr Ram Krishna Timalsena.
According to Timalsena, altogether 17 district courts have been connected to information technology network. “These courts have become paperless. All the woks will be done through information technology,” said Timalsena.
In its bid to modernize, the judiciary has installed 153 CCTV cameras in the Supreme Court, Kathmandu District Court and Patan Appellate Court, said IT Engineer Dipak Tamalsena.
With the installation of the CCTVs, the chief justice and registrar of the Supreme Court can now monitor the works in the courts right from their desks. “We expect that the use of technology will make our work more transparent,” said Dr Timalsena.
