CHITWAN, May 27: An all-party meeting in Chitwan has objected to the report of the civilian investigation team formed by Nepal Medical Association (NMA) to probe the case of missing executive director of BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital Dr Bhakta Man Shrestha that was made public Wednesday.

The meeting concluded that the team unilaterally brought the report without proper investigation. "The report has more of the baseless things. The initiative of the civilian team has not proved sufficient," Chitwan district president of Nepali Congress Ram Krishna Ghimire said.[break]

CPN-UML Chitwan district president Krishna Khanal, on the other hand, said the report came in a way that would stir fear in the district while Maoist deputy in-charge Avinash alleged that that the report tries to blame his party just for the political faith of the doctor.

The cancer hospital claimed that the team did not hold any discussion with its management committee, deputy director and doctors during investigations.

The civil society, professionals and human rights activists meanwhile termed the report prepared through a day-long investigation as ridiculous. The meeting also complained that the state and local administration are not taking the issue seriously.

The seven-member team -- led by NMA President Dr Kedar Narsingh KC with Nepal Bar Association (NBA) President Prem Bahadur Khadka, human rights activist Sudeep Pathak, NMA General Secretary Dr Anjani Kumar Jha, Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) General Secretary Poshan KC, Constituent Assembly (CA) Member Mangal BK and Dr Bhola Rauniyar of NMA, Bharatpur as members -- had conducted investigations in Chitwan on Monday.

The report had placed Chitwan Hospital, where the doctor was last seen, under suspicion and also called for investigations into the status of Rs 1.15 million that Dr Shrestha had withdrawn from Employees´ Welfare Fund from Thamel, Kathmandu a day before he went missing.

Meanwhile, major political parties and Save Dr Bhaktaman Campaign have jointly called for Chitwan shutdown on May 30 to put pressure on the government and local administration.
