KATHMANDU: Nepal Civil Service Employees’ Union has warned of taking to street if the government continues to transfer, promote and treat civil servants with political prejudice.

“We will be compelled to launch nationwide protests soon if the government does not stop its arbitrariness in bureaucracy,” warned Bhawani Prasad Thani, president of the trade union.

The trade union’s warning has come amidst reports of allegation of arbitrariness in civil servants’ promotion and transfers by the CPN (Maoist)-led government. The trade union further accused the government of political biasness in promotion and transfer of civil servants. On the other hand, the government has expressed its displeasure over what it called non-cooperation from bureaucrats.

The trade union’s Subodh Kumar Devkota accused the government of transferring chief district officers (CDOs), women officers under the Department of Women Development, officials at the Local Development Ministry in violation of the Civil Service Act. He said they can be transferred only in February as the law stipulates.
