Citizens Bank Open Tennis Tournament kicks off

KATHMANDU, April 23: Bhagawati BK, Ganga Sharma and Sneha Yadav have advanced to the quarterfinals in the women's singles category of the Fifth Citizens Bank Open Tennis Tournament on Sunday.

KATHMANDU, April 23: Bhagawati BK, Ganga Sharma and Sneha Yadav have advanced to the quarterfinals in the women's singles category of the Fifth Citizens Bank Open Tennis Tournament on Sunday. 



In the opening day matches played at Satdobato Tennis Court, Bhagawati defeated Saloni Tamang by 6-2, 6-1 while Ganga registered win of 6-1, 6-1over Abhilasha Bista. Likewise, Sneha overcame the challenge of Prakriti Shrestha by 6-2, 6-1 in another match of the same event.

Similarly in the men singles category, Ranjan Shrestha, Abhinav Acharya, Subrat Basnet and Pradip Khadka emerged victorious and booked their places in the last 16. 


Ranjan and Abhinav registered 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-2 victories over Pritam Pariyar and Shriyansh Agrawal respectively. Similarly, Subrat defeated Dev Thapa by 6-4, 6-0 while Pradip beat Konon F Sqyus by 6-1, 6-0. 


In the other matches of the same event, Kubehang Chemjong defeated Nishan Shrestha 6-1, 6-1, Bikash Khadka overcame Sandip Poudel by 6-0, 6-0 and Adit Subedi registered 6-2, 6-4 victory over Nabin Shrestha. All the winners advanced to the pre-quarterfinals. 


The tournament being organized by Kathmandu District Lawn-Tennis Association in the sponsorship of Citizens Bank International features altogether 252 players in eight different categories. The champions in the men's and women's singles categories will bag Rs 30,000 each while the runner-ups will be rewarded with Rs 15,000 each. Likewise, semifinalists and quarterfinalists in the both categories will be awarded Rs 7,500 and 3,750 each. 



Similarly the winners in men's doubles and mixed doubles will bag Rs 24,000 and runner-ups and semifinalists in the both events will be awarded with Rs 12,000 and Rs 6,000 respectively.
