Citing COVID-19 pandemic, Sajha Party's provincial lawmaker Shakya decides not to take Dashain allowances

KATHMANDU, Oct 18: Shova Shakya, a provincial lawmaker of Sajha Party, said on Sunday that she has decided not to take the Dashain allowances this year.

KATHMANDU, Oct 18: Shova Shakya, a provincial lawmaker of Sajha Party, said on Sunday that she has decided not to take the Dashain allowances this year.


"It is not appropriate to receive Dashain allowances from any angle as the whole country is bearing the brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic and a huge number of people are facing the hand-to-mouth problem at present," the provincial lawmaker stated in a press release.

She said that she will return Dashain allowances although her monthly salary along with Dashain allowances was already deposited in her account by the Bagmati Province Government. The provincial lawmaker also urged other lawmakers to return their Dashain allowances.


Additionally, she also urged the provincial government to make all-round efforts to tackle the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
