CIB warns: Over 500 numbers active in cyber fraud, stay alert

The CIB advised people not to respond to calls or messages from unknown numbers involved in these activities.

KATHMANDU, Jan 3: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has issued a warning about over 500 suspicious phone numbers involved in cyber fraud. In a statement on Friday, CIB spokesperson SP Hobindra Bogati urged the public to stay vigilant.


Fraudsters have been using e-services, wallets like Khalti, and fake bank logos to deceive people by calling them, attempting to lock accounts by entering wrong passwords, and requesting OTPs to steal money. Similar frauds are occurring in online business transactions.

Recent incidents have resulted in massive losses, including Rs 5.7 million in Pokhara, Rs 1.6 million in Chitwan, and Rs 550,000 from Nepal government employees.
