KATHMANDU, Dec 13: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Tuesday directed the government to revoke appointment of Rajendra Banskota as the acting general manager of the state-owned Nepal Food Corporation (NFC).

The CIAA made the decision stepping on its earlier verdict that called on the government to appoint chiefs of all public enterprises through free competition. [break]

The government had earlier appointed Banskota as the acting chief of the NFC by sacking Hari Narayan Sah, the general manager of the NFC. But Sah was later reinstated to his post after he moved the Supreme Court. Now, the state-owned company has two general managers. Similar cases of dual chiefs have also been reported in other public enterprises.

The CIAA has now directed the government to revoke all appointments that goes against the Supreme Court´s verdict.

“We do not want the government to go against its own decision to appoint chiefs of all public enterprises through open competition,” the CIAA statement says.
