The report shows that the commission filed 65 graft cases involving Constituent Assembly (CA) members, former police chiefs and high ranking government officials, among others, at the Special Court and recovered Rs 6.5 million in fines.
Of the total cases, 46 cases were related to fake certificates while the remaining involved misuse of state coffers.
Similarly, the commission retrieved nearly 1,600 ropanis of government land which was illegally transferred in the name of individuals.
Responding to questions from media persons as to why the CIAA spared politicians involved in the Sudan scam, the commission´s Secretary Bhagwati Kafle said, “We didn´t spare anyone. We are ready to take action against anyone if we receive concrete evidence.”
Secretary Kafle clarified that they didn´t baulk while probing and filing Sudan scam at the court and urged media persons and the general public to provide evidences, if they have any, regarding the politicians´ involvement in the Sudan scam.
“We filed more cases at the Special Court last year as compared to the previous years,” he added.
Asked if they were under political pressure while probing and filing cases against CA members, Kafle said, “We weren´t under any kind of pressure. We would have ignored it even if there had been any.”
CIAA said President Dr Ram Baran Yadav was satisfied with the commission´s report.
“The commission´s work and efforts in combating corruption has impressed me,” CIAA Spokesperson Ishowari Paudel quoted Yadav as saying during the function, adding, “CIAA deserves praises for its work.”
