KATHMANDU, Aug 10: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Sunday apprehended a government employee on the charge of receiving over Rs 1 million in bribes.
Acting on a tip off, a team deployed from the CIAA’s Tangal, Kathmandu-based headquarters nabbed Santosh Sah, chief engineer at the Nepal Water Supply Corporation, Butwal, from Dhunibensi Municipality-8, Khanikhola in Dhading district. Sah was on his way to Kathmandu from Butwal in a government vehicle (Lu Ya 95).
During the security check, CIAA officials recovered a total of Rs 1,055,500 without any verified source--Rs 233,500 in cash and a bank deposit voucher worth Rs 822,000—from the vehicle which he was travelling in.
CIAA spokesperson Taranath Adhikari shared that an investigation into the case is underway.
