KAWASOTI, June 14: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has stopped the construction of the Triveni-Dumkibas road for not carrying out the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) before the construction.

The CIAA has said that the EIA was mandatory for the construction of road falling under the forest area.[break]

The nine-kilometer Triveni-Dumkibas road falls under the Chitwan National Park and it links the religious tourist destination of Trivenidham directly to the highway.

Following the order from the CIAA, the DDC has now transferred the Rs. 450,000 allocated for the road construction to other development work.

Meanwhile, the locals who had been contributing voluntary labour to the road construction are dejected over the ignorance on part of the Government.

As the road would bring down the distance of the road leading to Trivenidham by 60 kilometers, the Government should resume the construction after fulfilling all requirements soon, said former Triveni Susta VDC Chairman, Tek Narayan Upadhyaya.
