Organizing a press conference on Thursday, the anti-graft body drew the attention of the government, Ministry of Labor and Employment (MoLE) and other stakeholders to the painful journey of migrant workers starting from home to the destination countries.
The CIAA has urged all concerned government agencies to implement the existing laws on foreign employment, improve the existing laws and make institutional and structural changes. Bettering diplomatic relations, proper management of staffs both in Nepal and destination countries, and skill-development of migrant workers' are some other suggestions provided by the CIAA.
The CIAA's suggestions are based on a study conducted by its team among Nepali migrant workers in Malaysia, Qatar and Singapore.
“We have recorded various complaints regarding the problems faced by migrant workers before leaving the country and after returning home,” reads the report of the CIAA.
“The CIAA identified various problems after several rounds of discussions with stakeholders, field visits and on the basis of complaints filed here. We urge all stakeholders to work together to solve the existing problems in foreign employment,” spokesperson of the CIAA Krishna Hari Pushkar said.
The CIAA even stated that the condition of embassies, Immigration Department, Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE), Foreign Employment Promotion Board (FEPB) and diplomatic missions needs to be improved.
The report of the CIAA reads that the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers should provide other required assistance through interagency coordination to facilitate the implemention of the suggestions provided by CIAA.
