KATHMANDU, August 1: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Saturday arrested Krishna Kanta Upadhyay, the chief administrative officer (CAO) of Tulsipur Sub-metropolitan City in Dang on the charge of amassing property through bribery.
Issuing a press statement earlier today, CIAA spokesperson Taranath Adhikari shared that Upadhyay was taken under control by a team deployed from the Tangal-based CIAA headquarters following a tip-off that he was travelling with an “unnaturally high amount.”
During an inspection of the government vehicle (Ba 2 Jha 4099) in which he was traveling at Chandragiri Municipality-2, Nagdhunga, the CIAA team recovered a total of Rs1,448,796 --- Rs 124,750 in cash and some receipts for fixed deposits amounting Rs 1,324,046 in various banks --- from him.
“CIAA has started an investigation into the case after apprehending the accused,” the statement reads.
