CIAA appeals to SC against decision by Special Court

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) appealed to the Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday against a verdict of  the Special Court.

KATHMANDU, March 31: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) appealed to the Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday against a verdict of  the Special Court.


The CIAA filed the appeal after it disagreed with the Special Court's decision in a case against seven individuals, including Balram Thapa, the former program director of the Directorate of Livestock Market Promotion in Haribhawan, Lalitpur.

The CIAA accused former director Thapa, accounts officer Ramprasad Bajgai, senior veterinary doctor Pooja Sharma, and others of corruption amounting to Rs 4.73 million and filed a case in the Special Court.


The case charges them with making excessive payments during the construction of the Amhuwa Animal Market in Jiri Khimti Majhgaon, Myanglung Municipality-5, Tehrathum. The CIAA seeks imprisonment and a fine as per the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059 BS.


The Special Court delivered a partial acquittal on February 13, 2024, in the case the CIAA filed. Dissatisfied with the verdict, the CIAA filed an appeal at the Supreme Court, said the CIAA's spokesperson, Rajendra Kumar Paudel.
