Chrysanthemum flower competition, fair kicks off

KATHMANDU, Oct 25: The 7th Chrysanthemum Flower Competition and Fair kicked off in Jawalakhel on Friday.



The Agribusiness Promotion and Marketing Development Directorate (APMDD) in association with the Floriculture Association Nepal (FAN) is organizing the three-day event to promote floriculture industry and explore international market for flower exports.[break]



The fair has 28 stalls showcasing variety of flower types such as seasonal flowers, decorative plants, cut flowers and dry flowers besides Chrysanthemum. Similarly, seeds, fertilizers and pesticides, agricultural tools and packaging materials among others are also exhibited at the fair.



Meanwhile, Samjhana Nursery, TTR Bangalamukhi Nursery and Arun Nursery bagged first, second and third prize, respectively, in the competition among nurseries. Similarly, Buddhaharsh Nursery won the consolation prize.



Likewise, in the Chrysanthemum flower competition participating nurseries competed in four different categories: intermediate, reflex, spider and miniature. Sagarmatha Khotang Krishak Samuha won the intermediate category, Samjhana Nursery won reflex and miniature category while TTR Bangalamukhi Nursery won the spider category.



Jaya Mukunda Khanal, secretary of Ministry of Agricultural Development handed over the prizes and certificates to the winners.

As many as 25,000 visitors are expected in the event. It is expected to record turnover of around Rs 3 million.
