Chitwan Festival kicks off

CHITWAN, Jan 9: Chitwan Festival has commenced on the bank of the Narayani River here from today. It is organized by the Chitwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This is the 12th edition of the festival which is a biannual event organized around the theme – Chitwan’s Pride and Dignified Presentation. 

Former Prime Minister and Nepal Communist Party (NCP) chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ inaugurated a procession as a precursor to the Festival by releasing a balloon. The procession made a round of the Narayangadh Bazar. Various organizations participated in the procession. 

Coordinator of the Festival Organising Main Committee Sahan Lal Pradhan said national-level seminars on agriculture, education, health, tourism, communication and energy would be organized in course of the Festival. Cultural programs would also be organized on a daily basis at the festival venue in the presence of national artistes. 

Entrepreneurs from 22 districts from within the country and four from abroad will display their products at 570 stalls. Entrepreneurs from China, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh also will keep their stalls, according to Festival Management Committee coordinator Chum Narayan Shrestha. 

There will be commercial stalls, agriculture promotion stalls, information and technology related stalls, Nepali handicraft expo stalls, educational stalls and stalls run by social organizations. The main highlightof the festival is the ‘Made in Nepal’ stall. 

The Festival that will run till January 18 is aimed at Visit Nepal Year 2020 as its main objective is to promote the tourism destinations in Chitwan district and making it the country’s premier tourism destination.
