Chitrakar wins four gold medals, LA lifts team title

KATHMANDU, Aug 29: Manish Chitrakar of the host Himalayan International Model Higher Secondary School (HIMS) clinched two gold medals on Monday to take his gold tally to four in the Fourth HIMS Inter School Swimming Championship.



Chitrakar, who won 50m butterfly and 100m individual medley in boys´ 15 to 17 years age group on Saturday, won gold medals in 50m backstroke and freestyle in the same age group on Monday. He clocked 38.53 seconds to complete the backstroke and 30.53 seconds for the freestyle.[break]



However, Chitrakar´s attempt to win gold in 4X50m relay could not materialize. Chitrakar, Tenzin Ragba, Moonsun Bhujel and Lakpa Tshering teamed up for HIMS, but the team of Sanjeet Chaudhary, Mukesh Rai, Samrakshan Thapa and Shishir Thapa of defending champion Little Angels´ School (LA) won the relay with a timing of 2 minutes 16.75 seconds.



LA lifted the team title of the championship with 90 points while HIMS remained on the second spot with 66 points. The British School secured 56 points and finished third.



Sanjeet Chaudhary of LA won 50m backstroke in boys´ 11-12 years age group after completing the event in 41.87 seconds. He finished on the top of the victory stand also in the 50m freestyle event of the same age group.



LA´s Pasang Sherpa finished 25m backstroke and freestyle events of boys´ U-10 age group in the pole position. Sherpa registered timings of 20 seconds and 15.78 seconds in backstroke and freestyle respectively.



Meanwhile, Pasang Lhamu of HIMS won 50m backstroke in girls´ 15-17 years age group with a timing of 51 seconds while her team-mate Mehndo Sherpa clocked 17.94 seconds in 25m freestyle events of girls´ U-10 age group to win gold.



Anjalee Syangbo of The British School was the fastest among the girls of 11-12 years in 50m freestyle. She completed the dash in 39.13 seconds. Aashna Lama and Lily Colston won the other two gold medals for The British School on Monday. Lama won 50m freestyle event of girls´ 13-14 years age group while Colston claimed pole position in 50m freestyle event of girls´ 15-17 years age group.



Oshina Bharati of St Mary´s High School won three gold medals in the championship. Bharati, who finished 25m butterfly on pole position of girls´ U-10 category on Saturday, won 100m individual medley events of girls´ section with a timing of 1 minute 34.50 seconds. She also secured gold in 25m backstroke event in girls´ U-10 age group.



Seung Hwi Seo of Rupy´s Int´l School secured to gold medals on Monday. He finished 50m freestyle event of boys´ 13-14 years age group in 29.12 seconds and 50m backstroke in 38.12 seconds.



Ceila D Gurung of Kathmandu Valley grabbed gold in 50m backstroke of girls´ 11-12 years age category while Abigail Knoble of KISC won same event in the girls´ 13-14 age group.
