Speaking in Beijing on Thursday, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lu Kang said China is happy over the progress made by Nepal's political parties by endorsing the new constitution."As a friendly neighbor, Chinese side notes with pleasure that Nepal's Constituent Assembly has endorsed the new constitution," Spokesperson Lu said while responding to a query. Spokesperson Lu also said that China will support and respect Nepal's right to choose a system and development path. "China hopes that Nepal will have a path of political stability and economic development," he said.
A vast majority of CA members endorsed the Constitution Bill on Wednesday, materializing Nepali people's long-cherished dream to promulgate a constitution through representatives elected by them.
While 507 lawmakers of the total 598 present at the CA voted in favor of the Constitution Bill, 25 lawmakers voted against it.
Meanwhile, the US, the UK, Germany, Russia and India also welcomed the promulgation of Nepal's new constitution.
Earlier in the day, Chinese ambassador to Nepal Wu Chuntai met Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli to congratulate them on their success in bringing the new statute.
