KATHMANDU, Sept 25: The government of China has decided to allow as many as 20 trucks to enter Nepal on a daily basis from the Tatopani border checkpoint. An agreement to this effect was reached between Nawraj Dhakal, the Nepali Consul General Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region of China, and officers of the People’s Government of Tibet.
According to Dhakal, the officers of the government of Tibet were positive on doubling the number of trucks entering Nepal for the upcoming Dashain festival. So far, only 10 trucks are being allowed to enter Nepal from the Tatopani border checkpoint.

Also, discussions were made with the government officials of Tibet related to the import of 15,000 metric tons of chemical fertilizers without any hassle. It has been estimated that with a daily flow of 20 containers to Nepal, over 600 containers would enter Nepal before Dashain.
Due to the border restrictions at the moment, containers carrying materials and food items including fruits, shoes, slippers, readymade clothes, machinery and electric equipment are stuck in Lhasa, Melam and Kerung. The one-way Kerung border has been closed since September 1 while the Tatopani border has remained closed since July 9.
