China outrunning India in Nepali politics, India mulling a new strategy

With an unprecedented activeness of China, India seems preparing to counter it. India's Nepal Affairs expert and retired Indian Army General Ashok Mehta has revealed that during a video interview for Nagarik Show.

India is fearful and cautioned saying that China has started playing a direct role in Nepali politics.


The Southern neighbor believes that China is now directly involved in the game of continuing and bringing down governments.

According to him, India is formulating a new strategy concluding that India’s influence in Nepal is contracting, while China is increasing its ‘intervention’ here.



Mehta further revealed that Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who was close to China, has made a u-turn and is now inclining toward India.


“Dahal is an amateur leader, he is understating parliamentary practices and foreign relations only now ,” he said, “The new government will be India-friendly.”



In the interview, he has explained the bases for the next government being India-friendly.
