Quo will present the report at a convention of Chinese ambassadors posted across the globe in Beijing. China holds such a convention in five years in normal times, but this time the convention is being held after six years. The envoy will be on a three-week long trip to his home country, the Chinese embassy said.
During the meeting between the envoy and Koirala, the recent visit by some Constituent Assembly (CA) members to Dharmashala where they met with the Dalai Lama was also discussed. “Nepal has upheld one-China policy for long and all the political parties stand by this principle,” Koirala told myrepublica.com.
MoFA Spokesperson Dr Madan Bhattarai, said, “The Chinese envoy told the foreign minister that China appreciates Nepal´s one-China policy and that his country has full confidence on Nepal´s handling of the Tibetan issue.”
Reiterating that China is “very happy” with the way the government of Nepal handled the situation with the Tibetans who were attempting protests on the occasion of the birthday of the Dalai Lama (on Monday), Bhattarai said, “The ministry had requested all to desist from any activity which may have any negative impact on the excellent Nepal-China relations.” He further said that the meeting between the CA members and Dalai Lama was purely “personal” and the government had no prior information about it.
On Sunday, the MoFA also wrote a letter to the Home Ministry to tighten security and requested it to control unwanted activities by the Tibetans living in Nepal. On Monday no significant protest was seen on Kathmandu streets by pro-Tibet activists.
