KATHMANDU, July 31: Brushing aside apprehensions that China is increasing its assertiveness in various South Asian nations including in Nepal, China has said that it has no policy of engaging in the internal affairs of any other country.

At a function organized to mark the 86th founding anniversary of People"s Liberation Army (PLA) of China and the 58th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal-China in the capital on Wednesday, China also expressed commitment to build mutual trust with all countries based on shared benefit, equality and cooperation for regional as well as global peace.

´China opposes any form of hegemonism or power politics, will never interfere in the internal matters of other countries and will never seek hegemony or behave in a hegemonic manner, nor will it engage in military expansion,´ said Senior Colonel Cheng Xizhong, Chinese Defense Attaché in Nepal. Senior Colonel Cheng said Chinese PLA will continue to make due contribution to the maintenance of world peace and regional stability, besides providing a security guarantee and strategic support for national development. ´Both the Chinese PLA and Nepali armed forces are great contributors to regional peace and stability, and the exchanges between the PLA and NA have helped the two countries lay a solid foundation for a traditional good-neighborly relationship of mutual trust and understanding,´ he said.

Initially known as the Red Army, the PLA was established on 1 August 1927 and it is now the world"s largest military force with a strength of more than 2.25 million personnel. While Chief of Army Staff Gaurav SJB Rana attended the function as the chief guest, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Wu Chuntai, chiefs Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, National Investigation Department and defense-attachés of Kathmandu-based diplomatic missions, officials from foreign as well as defense ministries were present in the PLA day event.

Addressing the function, General Rana recalled his recent visit to China, where he held talks on bilateral military cooperation with top PLA officials including his Chinese counterpart Fang Fenghui, Chief Air Marshall Xu Qiliang. He also thanked Chinese side for all the support China has been extending to Nepal Army.

Earlier during Rana"s visit to China, China agreed to provide two mobile hospitals worth RMB 59 million (approxinately Rs 885 millions) to NA. PLA Chief Fang also announced the extension of an additional 50 million RMB in military support to NA during CoAS Rana´s visit earlier this week.

Chinese Defense Attaché Cheng said these hospital equipments and other logistic support materials will soon be delivered to Nepal. ´We believe this will surely help enhance the disaster rescue and humanitarian assistance capabilities of the Nepal Army,´ he said.´NA can deliver better service to the Nepali people and make more contribution to regional peace and stability together with Chinese PLA and other important regional players.´
