Paras Rai, 18, her little sister Sajina, 15, and brother Abhishek, 13, who lodged a complaint against his father Bhojman Rai accusing him of killing their mother Sita at Area Police Office of Mahendranagar, have recently abandoned their home following threats from their own relatives.[break]
"Our uncles and aunts had asked us to not tell anyone that our own father killed the mother," Paras told Republica. "However, once our mother´s final rites were over, father started beating us, too, frequently. He did not give us food. Meanwhile, our maternal uncles started prodding us into revealing what exactly led to our mother´s death. Eventually, we lodged a formal complaint against father."
According to Paras, who hails from Barahkshetra village-1 of Sunsari, after they lodged a complaint against their father, their uncles and aunts, along with other relatives, kept on warning them of dire consequences. They have taken refuge at their maternal aunt´s house.
According to Paras, an inebriated Bhojman had beaten Sita with a baton on the day of Laxmi Puja. Sita fell unconscious. They asked their father to rush their mother to hospital.
However, Bhojman paid no attention to their pleas. By evening, when Sita´s condition started deteriorating, they took her to BP Koirala Institute of Health Science (BPKIHS) in Dharan borrowing some money from neighbors.
Sita succumbed to her injuries in the hospital´s bed at midnight.
"We knew much later that our sister was murdered," Sita´s brother Ganga Bahadur Limbu said. After Sita´s children blew the whistle, police have arrested Bhojman. District Court of Sunsari has already remanded him to police custody for seven days.
