Chiefs of state-owned media resign

KATHMANDU, June 21: The chiefs of three government-controlled media organizations have resigned from their posts on Sunday.



Those tendering resignations from their posts are chairman of Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) Komal Nath Baral, chairman of Nepal Television Purna Bahadur Gharti, and chairman of the Gorakhapatra Corporation Ramesh Prasad Bhattarai.



All of them handed in their joint resignations to Minister for Information and Communications Shankar Pokharel at the Ministry.



They said they resigned on moral grounds immediately after the appointment of the new Information and Communications Minister to build a positive political culture and practice and to end the tendency of sticking to the post even after the change of government.



In a joint press release, they said they resigned with the objective so that norms and values will be promoted in politics and moral values would be established.



  Baral was appointed chairman of RSS on October 28, 2008.



Similarly, member of the RSS Board of Directors, Dipendra Rokaya and member of the Nepal Television Board of Directors Deepak Prasad Sapkota also resigned from their respective posts.
