The country’s top bureaucrat’s directive has come at a time when civil servants are in confusion over what should be disseminated and what should not. Bureaucrats say that classification of information will help them in ensuring people’s right to information.

Classification of information means listing of information that should be kept secret under the Right to Information Act. Information that affects Nepal’s integrity, international relation, investigation into any crime, financial and monetary policies, harmonious relation among communities have been defined as classified information in the law.

“Do internal exercise in the coming week and finalize classifying the information in your respective ministries in the next week,” Ghimire directed the secretaries who gathered for a workshop organized by National Information Commission on Friday.
