The needy patients could undergo organ transplant within the country once the law was introduced and enforced. Obviously, medical expense for organ transplant would be cheaper than the present cost if the service was available at home, the Chief Secretary added.

He further shared that the government was making preparations for fixing the price of expensive medicines and maintain uniformity in their prices. He emphasised the need of making the people from every corners of life aware of kidney disease and its prevention.

Around 30,00,000 people in Nepal are suffering from one or another type of kidney ailment while some 3,000 succumb to it every year, according to Center Executive Director Dr Pukar Chandra Shrestha.

Patients of high-blood pressure and diabetes are vulnerable to this disease and risk could be prevented through preventive measures including timely diagnosis. Lack of timely treatment of urine infection and the problem of calculus (stone) could invite kidney disease in the future, he said.

According to medical practitioners, brain death results from brain damage that is so severe and extensive that the brain has no potential for recovery. RSS
