KATHMANDU, Feb 25: Poultry enterpreneurs have raised price of chicken by Rs 15 per kg with effect from Monday citing drop in production. With the fresh adjustment, price of chicken in Kathmandu Valley has reached Rs 315 per kg.

This is the second price hike in less than a week. Earlier on Tuesday, poultry entrepreneurs had raised chicken price by Rs 15 per kg to Rs 300 per kg.[break]

Similarly, price of live chicken has been raised by Rs 10 per kg to Rs 230 per kg. Farmers get Rs 220 per kg for live chicken.

Junga Bahadur BC, president of the association, said continuous drop in poultry production following bird-flu outbreak in different parts of the country left them with no option but to raise the prices.

"Poultry production has dropped by around 30 percent. Demand, however, has dropped only marginally," BC said, explaining reasons behind price hike.
