Chess champs lose

KATHMANDU, June 8: Nepali chess players´ performance in the second round of the ongoing First International Open GM Chess Tournament remained poor as most of the players lost their matches on Monday.



The only Fide Master of Nepal Manish Hamal suffered a loss to Indian IM Babu Sudhakar. Nepal champion Badri Lal Nepali also suffered similar fate as he lost to IM Lahiri Atanu of India. Another high profile chess player Wilam Lal Shrestha was defeated by Indian IM DP Singh.



Likewise, Sujendra Prasad Shrestha was beaten by IM Narayanan Srinath of the hosts and Rajendra Prasad Shrestha lost to IM Babu Sudhakar. Unrated Indra Kumar, too, lost his match to Santosh Rajak of India.



Niraj Prajapati and 1825 rated Rajendra Rai, however, won their matches. Prajapati beat Rajak K Sahoo and Rai downed Pooja Senapati. Gyanendra Prasad Shrestha shared point with Sunyasakta Satpathy of the hosts.
