Chand-led CPN Maoist withdraws protest program

KATHMANDU, March 24: The CPN Maoist led by Netra Bikram Chand has withdrawn its announced Nepal band program on Tuesday.

Issuing a press statement today, General Secretary of the CPN Maoist Netra Bikram Chand said all the protest programs including Nepal banda have been withdrawn.


The CPN Maoist had announced Nepal band on April 1 as part of protest after police arrested Maoist cadres including Padam Rai and Ishwari Dahal for planting a black flag in the premises of *Radhesh Panta, chief executive officer of the Nepal Investment Board.

The scheduled protest programs have been canceled following the release of the arrested Maoist cadres.

CPN Maoist had planted the flag in the house of Panta saying that he was involved in the technical preparations of the hydro projects including Upper Tamakoshi, Arun II and Upper Marshyangdi while signing the contract with the Indian private company GMR.

Earlier, Chand-led CPN Maoist had distributed cooking gas after taking the gas depot under control and has captured 200 bigas of land in Chitwan district.
