KATHMANDU, April 26: Chairman of Interim Election Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi instructed Election Commission (EC) officials to make speedy preparations for new Constituent Assembly elections.

Regmi gave the instruction during his meeting with EC officials including Chief Commissioner Nilkantha Uprety in Baluwatar on Friday morning, according to Regmi’s press advisor Bimal Gautam. [break]

“The discussion was focused on the issues related to internal homework for the elections and electoral laws,” he said. On the occasion, EC officials also apprised Regmi about the commission’s works so far in the direction of holding new polls.

The government has yet to announce an election date. It says the announcement will not be made in a hurry, maintaining that once the date is declared it would be imperative for the government to conduct elections on the stated date. The previous Maoist-led government had missed election date twice.
