Central jail shooter gets 5-year term

KATHMANDU, July 24: The Kathmandu District Court on Sunday sentenced Manmeet Singh, the Indian national who shot Yunus Ansari inside Central Jail on March 10, to five-year imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 100,000.



Another major charge of attempt to murder against the 42-year-old contract killer is sub-judice at the Kathmandu District Court. Singh, from Lucknow in India, had fired point blank at Ansari.



Ansari is a controversial media entrepreneur and was prosecuted on fake currency and drug smuggling charges early in 2010.
