Cash prize for women SAG medalists

KATHMANDU, April 8: Women and Sports Commission of Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) awarded a total cash prize worth Rs 935,000 on Thursday to women athletes who brought home medals in the 11th South Asian Games (SAG), Dhaka.



Defense Minister Bidya Devi Bhandari gave away the prizes to a total of 54 women, including two coaches and a team manager. amidst a function in the capital. [break]



Gold medalists in individual events -- Ayasha Shakya (taekwondo), Binita Maharjan (wushu) and Ganga Adhikari (karate) -- bagged a purse of Rs 50,000 each while the silver and bronze medalists in individual events received Rs 35,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. In the team events, silver and bronze medalist each received Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.



Manita Shahi (taekwondo), Anu Adhikari (karate) and 20 member women´s football team had won silver medal in the SAG. Likewise, Radha Devi Rai and Debu Thapa of judo, Jharana Gurung Elina and Chaudhari of wushu, Yan Kumari Chaulagain (taekwondo) and Muna Basukala (table tennis) had won bronze medals in individual events.



A six-member badminton team, a two-member table tennis team and a 12-member kabaddi team had won bronze in team event.



Team manager of Nepali football Bimala Poudel bagged Rs 15,000 while badminton coach Rajani Joshi and kabaddi coach Shanti Singh received Rs 10,000 each.



NOC president Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan, General Secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha and Geeta Rana, president of Women and Sports Commission, spoke on the occasion.
