KATHMANDU, June 1: The cases of black fungus or mucormycosis, a rare and deadly fungal infection, have also been detected in Nepal.

It is a fungal infection common among COVID-19 patients with diabetes.

According to Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari, joint spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), around 10 to 12 cases of black fungus have been reported in Nepal.

“These cases were reported in various hospitals in Kathmandu, Birgunj and Nepalgunj,” he added.

The black fungus infection has already devastated several states of India.

Mucormycosis affects individuals with low immunity like elderly people, cancer, diabetes and organ transplant patients.
