Be it teenagers or middle-aged people, no one is spared of Valentine´s Day spirit and that is swelling the crowd in gift shops.
"Until some years ago, Valentine´s Day celebrations were not so popular but nowadays it seems everybody is celebrating and in a big way," said Pusporushotam Kachhyapati, who runs Gift Gallery at Kalimati. He added the new generation is highly influenced by western culture and they demand gift items first seen on Internet.
"As gifts shops around town have been witnessing more customers since last week, transactions have also gone up," Kachhyapati told Republica. Kachhyapati disclosed daily sale of Valentine´s Day gifts in the peak season at the store is in the range of Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000.

According to Vandhana Khetan, who runs a Hallmark outlet at Khichapokhari, "Demand of all varieties of gifts, which are available at the store, has increased compared to normal season. Valentine´s Day cards have become costlier by 20 percent and they are available from Rs 56 to Rs 475. Cups are available from Rs 300 to Rs 400 whereas hanging love-letter costs Rs 195. Photo frame costs Rs 235," Khetan said.
Similarly, pen stands cost Rs 300 and love-hearts are available from Rs 165 to Rs 600. Statue and teddy bears are available from Rs 75 to Rs 3,000. Likewise, key ring costs Rs 65 to Rs 200. Khetan said gift items for V-Day are imported from China, India and Thailand.
