KATHMANDU, Dec 3: Sudurpaschim Royals comfortably defeated Biratnagar Kings by 90 runs in their opening match of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) on Tuesday.
Captain Dipendra Singh Airee's half-century helped Sudurpaschim set a formidable target of 183 runs. Biratnagar, however, fell short. They were bowled out for just 92 runs in 16.1 overs. Captain Airee played a knock of 57 runs off 24 balls, scoring five sixes and three fours. Scottish all-rounder Brendon McMullen orchestrated an inning of 36 runs off 26 balls, scoring two sixes and fours apiece.
Sudurpaschim Royals set 183-run target for Biratnagar Kings
This is Biratnagar’s second loss in a row, having previously lost to Janakpur Bolts by eight wickets. They were bundled up in 16.1 overs as the Royals’ bowling attack dominated the second half of the game. Both Abinash Bohara and New Zealander bowling all-rounder Scott Kuggeleijn claimed three wickets apiece while McMullen bowled a maiden over.
Sudurpaschim’s victory is notable as they became the first team to win by batting first, while the previous three matches in the tournament were won by teams chasing the target.
