CAN Info Tech 2013 will focus on developers, ICT

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: CAN Info-Tech, which has focused on hardware sales so far, is featuring software developers and ICT service providers as the major attractions this year.



Organizers of the event told Republica that the objective of the mega ICT expo will not be limited to gadgets sales. “Majority of the entrepreneurs today is turning toward service industry and ICT sector can´t be an exception,” Amrit Pant, general secretary of Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) - the organizer of the event, said. Recalling the initial years of the Info-Tech when CAN had tough time convincing software developers to participate in the event, Pant said: “Today, software developers have realized that platform like this are important to boost their business.”



According to CAN, about 25 percent of more than 110 companies participating in the event this year will promote their services instead of products. These companies include education software developers, accounting solution providers, Internet service providers, online job portals, graphic designers, animation companies, and mobile application developers, among others.



The six-day event kicks off on February 6 at Bhrikuti Mandap, Kathmandu. It will feature a total of 219 stalls, including 40 branded stalls.



“Apart from promoting trade, we will be also focused on raising awareness of people on new innovations in the ICT sector,” Pant said, adding that many exhibitors are participating in the event with the twin objectives of boosting their sales and informing people about the new innovations in the ICT sector.



Raju Baniya, chief business officer of Midas Technologies - the title sponsor of the event, said they were showcasing recently launched animated audio-visual tutorial package called ´Midas eClass´ in the Info-Tech. “The Info-Tech is a good platform to meet with potential customers and also to let people how Nepali software can make learning more effective and interesting,” added Baniya.



Likewise, Maya Animation Academy has also announced plans to provide free quick lessons on 3D animated movies at the Info-Tech.



CAN is expecting more than 500,000 visitors in the event.
