Bhattarai will lead an 11-member delegation to the summit to be held in Addu Atoll, the Maldives, from November 10-11.[break]
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayankaji Shrestha and Acting Foreign Secretary Durga Prasad Bhattarai, among others, will accompany the prime minister.
According to Shrestha, the cabinet meeting also promoted Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) of Armed Police Force Durja Kumari Rai, Ramesh Dev Bhattarai and Jeewan Kumar Thapa to Additional Inspector General. The Rayamajhi Commission had found Rai guilty of suppressing the People´s Movement in 2005.
Similarly, the government promoted DIGs of Nepal Police Navraj Dhakal and Bhishma Prasain to the post of AIGs.
Likewise, the cabinet meeting appointed Chandtara Kumari as the Chairperson of the National Women´s Commission. The meeting also extended the tenure of Tapanath Shukla as the Executive Director of Radio Nepal by two years.
Also, Dr Kul Bahadur Rokaya, Akhileshwor Das, Kamala Rai, Basanta Bahadur Telor and Durga Neupane have been appointed as members of Poverty Alleviation Fund.
Nepal to hold 18th SAARC Summit
Nepal will host the 18th SAARC Summit.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Thursday took a decision in this regard, said the government spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha.
The 17th SAARC Summit was being held in Maldives from November 8 to 10.
