CAAN seeks explanation from Mayor Balen

KATHMANDU, June 16: Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah has been asked for an explanation by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).

Contrary to the instructions given by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) to stop the construction work of the building under construction within the restricted area of the airport, CAAN has demanded an explanation from the Mayor Balendra Shah.

On Thursday, KMC Police interrupted the building construction saying that the map of the complex being built on the land in Ward No. 9 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City has not been passed. The team of the metropolis removed the barbed wire in the area where the building was being constructed and instructed them to stop the construction.

However, CAAN said that the metropolis did not give any information before stopping the construction. The CAAN has asked the KMC Mayor to furnish clarification as to why he should not be punished as per the Clause 25(1) of the CAAN Act.
