KATHMANDU, June 17: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has decided to lift the suspension of Senior Captain Bijay Lama of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC). He was grounded some two weeks ago on the charge of violating aviation safety rules.
Gyanendra Bhul, information officer of CAAN, stated that Lama has been fined Rs 25,000 in accordance with the law. "Under the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority Act 2053 BS, there is a provision prohibiting taking pictures in restricted areas at the airport. If anybody violates this provision set by CAAN, they are fined Rs 25,000. The decision regarding the fine on Lama will be taken within a few days," Bhul explained.
Captain Lama, who is a senior pilot of an Airbus A330 'wide-body' aircraft, was grounded following a complaint regarding the taking of pictures in restricted airport zones.
