KATHMANDU, April 19: The meeting today of the Constituent Assembly endorsed a condolence proposal in the demise of the seniormost member of the CA and former Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa.

The proposal tabled by CA Chair Subas Nembang was unanimously approved by the meeting. A minute's silence was also observed praying for eternal peace to the departed soul.It may be noted that Mr Thapa had chaired the CA as the seniormost member of the Assembly, and until a new Chairman was elected following the election to the second Constituent Assembly.

A five-time Prime Minister, Thapa died on April 15 in course of treatment at a private hospital in New Delhi, India.

The previous two meetings of the CA too had been postponed after endorsing condolence proposals—one in the demise of former CPN-UML lawmaker Ramnath Dhakal and another in the passing away of former Minister and UCPN (Maoist) leader Salim Miyan Ansari.

The CA will meet again at 3:00 pm on April 23, Thursday. RSS
