CA election to be fair and inclusive: Upreti

KATHMANDU, April 24: Chief Election Commissioner Neel Kanth Upreti has said the Constituent Assembly election would be fair and inclusive



Speaking at a program organized by the SAARC Law Nepal Chapter here on Wednesday, Chief Commissioner Upreti expressed commitment that the coming CA election would be inclusive, as all political parties would participate in it.[break]



However, he said for holding CA election within November, the political parties need to work in unison.



Similarly, Supreme Court Justice Kalyan Shrestha said it is everyone´s duty to create atmosphere for the CA election. The constitution needs to be acceptable to all, he stressed.



Former chief election commissioner Bhojraj Pokhrel said it was time to make women victorious letting them competing with themselves as a provision of 50 percent was set under the direct election and the similar percent under the proportional quota.



Former parliamentarian Binda Pande said the candidacies should be fielded ensuring at least one third of women because there was 51.4 percent women in the country´ population.



Nepal Chapter Secretary Sapana Pradhan Malla requested the Election Commission to ensure the provision of 33 percent women´s participation in the CA election.
